Our Projects
Free Range Science brings science and scientists out of the lab and into the towns of regional Victoria. Funded by the Victorian Government, the program puts locals in touch with the people who research, design, create and use the science and technology that powers our lives.
Join us for our Solargraphy Project, which will form a component of our upcoming exhibition, Winning Sky Photos: the David Malin Awards 2011.
The Riaus Book Club has a science and technology focus that embraces sci-fi, biographies, speculative fiction, young adult fiction and more. Book club events are all about participation. They usually don’t feature a presenter (although sometimes we meet the author). They’re for those who’ve read the featured book and are keen to talk about it with others.
Lights, camera, science… The RiAus Film Club is dedicated to screening films with science- and culture-based themes. Our selections span science genres from the classic to the modern, and include features and documentaries, sci-fi and sci-fact, and explorations of utopian or dystopian futures.
Science Outside the Square (SOS) is a successful program of high-profile public events on topical and sometimes controversial subjects which has been run in South Australia since 2005. RiAus was delighted to be a presentation partner for the Adelaide Festival of Ideas. The theme for 2011 was ‘planning for uncertainty.’ RiAus presented a range of sessions exploring how science and technology are changing our world.
These events are presented by COSMOS magazine and RiAus in association with Science in the City. They are supported by the Council of Australasian Museum Directors and the Science Connections Program of the Federal Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.
The Great Big Science Read is a special opportunity to focus on science books, both fiction and non-fiction, coinciding with National Science Week in August each year. The Great Big Science Read is held in association with COSMOS magazine, the South Australian Premier’s Reading Challenge and Public Library Services.
SBS & RiAus Science Season ‘Secrets of the Human Body’
The five events that made up this series were special previews of the SBS Science Season Secrets of the Human Body, which screened on Sunday nights from 5 December 2010. Online content created out of each RiAus event was shared between RiAus and SBS.

Since biblical times people have conceptualised their shortcomings through the tradition of the seven deadly sins. But modern science can now shed new light on these ancient beliefs. This series explored each sin from a new perspective, using disciplines such as evolutionary biology, neuroscience, psychology and ethics.

In 2010 RiAus proudly supported TippingPoint events in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane during October and November.
TippingPoint is a UK-based network organisation that connects the arts and climate science worlds, and these unique events will stimulate artists and scientists to re-imagine our global future.
