APPEA Oil & Gas Industry Engineering Scholarship for Indigenous Australians
Applications are now open for the 2012 APPEA Oil & Gas Industry Engineering Scholarship for Indigenous Australians. The scholarship aims to encourage greater participation by Indigenous Australians in the oil and gas industry by providing financial support and paid vacation work experience over the course of their studies. APPEA encourages applications from Indigenous Australians who are commencing or already undertaking an engineering degree in Australia that is relevant to the Oil and Gas industry. The scholarship is applicable in any field of engineering for undergraduate degrees and covers the remaining duration of the recipient’s studies for up to five years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Lisa Fox Indigenous Fellowship Program
A new fully-funded, postgraduate fellowship opportunity is now being administered by the Aurora Project. The Lisa Fox Indigenous Fellowship Program will enable one Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander postgraduate each year to undertake a Masters (MA) or Doctoral (PhD) program at New York University (NYU), commencing in September 2012. The Fellowship is tenable for up to four years and covers course fees and travel, plus an annual stipend of approximately US$30,000 (A$29,394) for accommodation and living expenses.

Opportunities for tertiary students at DSTO
DSTO offers tertiary students opportunities to gain relevant project experience onsite through formal placement programs. The two main programs available are 12 weeks long Summer Vacation Scholarship program and up to one year long Industry Experience Placement program.
To be eligible for the Summer Vacation Scholarship program at DSTO, students must:
• be a full-time tertiary student who will be continuing full-time tertiary studies in the forthcoming year
• have completed 2 years of tertiary study before commencing your project
• be an Australian citizen, and
• successfully undergo a Defence security clearance.
Eligibility to receive an Industry Experience Placement is restricted to students who:
• are enrolled full-time at a tertiary institution, and it is a requirement of the degree that the student undertake a practical placement with industry
• are Australian citizens; and
• must undergo a Defence security clearance that will enable them to enter DSTO establishments.
Applications for the Industry Experience Placement are now open until 11 May, and the Summer Vacation Scholarship program will be open for applications in April. Selection for a placement is based on academic merit and alignment between the research project and the students’ course of study.
The scholarship opportunities include working onsite at a DSTO laboratory under the supervision of Science & Technology staff, and a tax free stipend.
