RiAus PDplus

PDplus is a new initiative of the RiAus focusing on providing professional development opportunities for teachers, delivered online. The sessions draw on the varied and exciting public program of science engagement activities at RiAus and provide a unique opportunity for teachers to have access and put questions to scientists about their research and careers. These sessions are aimed at middle school (year 7-9) teachers, and will be complemented by extensive resources for further classroom activity. Teachers can log on to view sessions through the CENTRA network. Instructions on how to do this are contained in the “Getting Started with Centra Virtual Classroom” section of the DECS website.

Till now, our PDplus resources have been aimed at directed at students in the middle years but we hope in the future to extend our teaching resources to JP/P and secondary school students.  However I do encourage you to take a look through these resources as there are likely to be activities adaptable for students outside the middle years.

CSIRO Teacher Tours

The annual CSIRO Teacher Tour – now in its fourth year – is a partnership between RiAus, the South Australian Government’s Department of Education and Children’s Services (DECS) and the CSIRO.
Coordinated by the CSIRO Preventative Health Flagship in Adelaide and hosted by CSIRO research facilities around the country, the tour enables classroom teachers to participate in a range of current research and topical science experiences in various state and territory capitals. Through their participation, teachers meet and interact with scientists from a range of areas – including preventative health, food production, gene technology, materials science, taxonomy and astronomy – then share what they have learned with peers and students on their return to the classroom.
