RiAus runs poetry-related events and competitions with a science theme. Australian poet John Kinsella‘s specially commissioned poems for the launch of RiAus featured on the LED ribbon display on the exterior of the Science Exchange building following its opening.
John Kinsella‘s poetry has won major awards and been translated into French, Swedish, Lithuanian, Romanian, Italian, German, Chinese, Dutch, Spanish and Russia. He is Professorial Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia and an Extraordinary Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge University. John is the author of more than 40 books and editor of The New Penguin Anthology of Australian Poetry (2009). His most recent work is The Divine Comedy (Norton USA; UQP, Australia; 2009). Poems by John Kinsella were specially commissioned by RiAus for its opening and have featured on the LED ribbon display on the exterior of the Science Exchange building. Download the full text.
RiAus Sci-ku Competition 2011
The RiAus, Friendly Street Poets and COSMOS Magazine are holding their second annual sci-ku poetry competition. This year we are calling for sci-kus with either chemistry or forest themes in recognition of 2011 being both the International year of Chemistry and Forests. So unleash your inner poet and send us your best science haikus.

RiAus Sci-ku Competition 2010
The inaugural RiAus and Friendly Street Poets sci-ku poetry competition attracted a large number of outstanding science haikus. In addition to their prizes, winners in each category have their work and names up in lights on RiAus’ digital sash artwork on the exterior of the Science Exchange building in Adelaide. First, second and third prizes were awarded in each category, with winners receiving $250, $100 and $50 book vouchers, respectively. First prize winners in each category also received a Kindle e-Reader. Other great prizes included books provided by Friendly Street and Wakefield Press.
