Steven Tingay
Prof Steven Tingay is a Western Australian Premier’s Research Fellow, Deputy Director of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, and Director of the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy.
Upon graduating from Catholic College Bendigo, Tingay completed an Honours degree in physics at The University of Melbourne and a PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics at The Australian National University in Canberra, before working at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California and at CSIRO’s Paul Wild Observatory.
Prof Tingay has been at Curtin University in Perth since 2007, after heading the Swinburne University of Technology Square Kilometre Array (SKA) program for 5 years. At Curtin University, Tingay leads a large group of research astronomers and PhD students, leads the $30m Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) project, and manages approximately $40m of research funding.
Tingay has been heavily involved in the national and international SKA projects for the last decade.
