Concussions, spinal injuries and internal bleeding. During football season, serious sports injuries make front page news on a regular basis as players continually put their bodies on the line. Whether you love rugby, Aussie rules or soccer, there is widespread concern about the injuries sustained in contact sports.

How serious are football code injuries compared to other sports, and what prevention strategies are most supported by current research? FOX Sports news reporter Tom Wilson guided our panel of experts, including leading sports injury prevention researcher Prof Caroline Finch and medical officer at the Port Adelaide Football Club Dr Mark Fisher, through a discussion of the science of safety equipment, risk taking behaviour, penalties in sport and strategies we can use to keep our players safe.

Footage from the night is available below.
