Adelaide Fringe 2011: The Twittering Machine
Location: Adelaide Fringe, The Science Exchange. Program: Adelaide Fringe.
A man is perched on a bicycle with a birdcage on his head. An alarm clock rings. A bird sings. A mousetrap triggers a rickety contraption… A hammer swings, a tray flies out and four eggs drop into four glasses. Cause and effect, logical yet unbelievable, fascinating but pointless…

And with that, I present to you the first Adelaide Fringe show I’ve been to.
The Twittering Machine was 20 minutes of buildup, with roughly 60 seconds of awesome pay off.
The Twittering Machine is a version of The Goldberg Machine, which is the name of those machines that involve a ball rolling down a ramp, and knocking over a mop, which sets off a record player, etc etc etc. The show consists of Greg Cousins setting up all of the little parts of the machine, which builds up the suspense tremendously until he eventually sets it off.
It really is a nerve-wracking experience watching him set up all of the items, while moving between them carefully as to not knock anything over. It was quite a stressful show.
